PETMAX: When was “Zuzi veterinary, cosmetic shop and veterinary barber shop” born?

Zuzi vet: Zuzi Vet was born in March 2018. The name Zuzi comes from our Fox Terrier puppy

PETMAX: What does a dog grooming package consist of?

Zuzi vet: A complete dog grooming package starts with introducing the dog to the groomer, so that he adapts to the environment, especially if it is the first time he sets foot in front of our door. For puppies who come to us regularly, the atmosphere at our place and the procedures are already known and the placement is carried out faster. We then brush the hair to see if it has been trampled and if it requires special solutions for detachment. Followed by the bath, in which we apply shampoo twice, and at the end a conditioner or a hydrating mask, depending on the needs of the hair. We move on to drying and brushing, before moving on to the actual cutting. At the end we clean the ears, cut the nails and with the Zuzi Sap compresses we massage the pillows with a special moisturizing cream, freshen the breath and finally the treat with a gift accessory.

PETMAX: Can cats also benefit from Zuzi’s veterinary cuddles?

Zuzi vet: Yes, even cats can be pampered in our salon, we have various personalized packages based on the needs of each pet.

PETMAX: There is a misconception that cats don’t clean themselves more than a simple brush. Is shearing cats a bad practice? Can haircuts harm cats?

Zuzi vet: It’s true that there is this preconception, but cutting cats has often become a necessity for owners, especially during moulting periods, when cats fill their homes with hair. The cutting of cats is carried out above all for the comfort of the owners, but it is very important to remember that it does not cause any harm to the cats, and I affirm this from my experience as a barber first and then as an owner of cats who cut several times a year.

PETMAX: All dogs and large breed dogs?

Zuzi vet: Yes, we also groom large dogs, but for them it’s mostly about washing and brushing, there are few large dogs that are clipped, or that are ready to be clipped.

PETMAX: How do you handle less cooperative quadrupeds? Do you use anesthesia?

Zuzi vet: Anesthesia can only be practiced in veterinary practices, we do not use anesthesia in our salon. From my point of view, when anesthetizing for a haircut, the ratio between negative effects and benefits is against the dog, especially in the long term.
In our case, the cases in which we were not able to carry out the toilet until the end were extremely rare, generally with a lot of patience and sweetness the puppies become cooperative.

PETMAX: At what interval of time do you recommend going to the toilet (haircut, bath)?

Zuzi vet: this aspect depends a lot on the type of fur of the animal, whether it is in the yard or in the house. In general, for those who stay at home, bathing once a week is recommended, but it is very important to use quality products that do not damage the skin in any way. For haircuts, the recommendation is every one to two months, depending on how quickly the animal’s hair grows, but it is very important that the hair is maintained between haircuts by bathing and brushing.

PETMAX: Does the recommendation vary depending on the season?

Zuzi vet: for puppies that stay at home, nothing different. For farmyard ones, yes, because their fur gives them thermal support in the cold season.

PETMAX: What do you recommend pet owners do between visits to the barber?

Zuzi vet: Between visits to the groomer, owners are advised to brush the fur regularly, this is important both for the health of the coat and to create a habit for the animal. Otherwise, grooming becomes stressful for dogs and the fur becomes tangled and much more difficult to maintain.

PETMAX: Have you ever refused to bathe an animal? On what basis?

Zuzi vet: The only animals rejected were extremely aggressive ones, where going to the bathroom was impossible, but these cases are very rare.

PETMAX: Do you also do pet grooming at home?

Zuzi vet: This service is not part of our portfolio.

PETMAX: How necessary is it for the pet owner to resort to professional grooming instead of that done at home by the owner?

Zuzi vet: This is very important, because firstly the owners do not know how to properly care for the fur of the animals and secondly there is a great risk of accidents, we have had cases where the animals were accidentally cut by the owners in the house.
The aesthetic side must also be taken into consideration, the experience gained over time is reflected in the way in which the dogs are trimmed.

PETMAX: How long does it take for a complete grooming for a medium-sized dog?

Zuzi vet: a complete toilet takes approximately 2-2.5 hours.

PETMAX: Can owners assist in grooming their pets or is it preferable for them not to be present?

Zuzi vet: It is preferable that owners do not assist in the grooming of puppies, because most pets are less cooperative towards their owners, they spoil themselves, they are less cooperative. In their absence, grooming occurs more easily, and the barber is much more able to create a relationship with the animal.

PETMAX: Do you have any favorite products that you use, any particular ranges?

Zuzi vet: The ranges we use are PSH and Iv San Bernard.

PETMAX: Do grooming products differ in hair type, color or are they the same for all dogs and cats?

Zuzi vet: The products used differ depending on the consistency of the hair, depending on the degree of stiffness that the hair presents, and there are also specific shampoos for different colors.

PETMAX: Have you ever had a pet with fleas or ticks? Again, do you finish going to the bathroom or refuse it?

Zuzi vet: Unfortunately it happens quite often, but we try to make the owners of the animals responsible, we try to make them understand what risks the animals are subject to if they are not dewormed in time.

Zuzi vet: Yes, it is possible to purchase animal hygiene products from us, we offer owners a very varied range of products.

PETMAX: Have you ever received a grooming request for another species of animal besides the cat or dog?

Zuzi vet: Yes, it happened. It was rabbits two or three times.
